Staying healthy

You probably already know about Queensland’s excellent climate, fresh foods, parks, beaches and sports/recreational facilities.

Finding time to relax, get some regular exercise and look after your general health and nutrition will help you to have a safe, successful and happy time while you are studying in Queensland.

A big part of staying healthy involves eating healthy foods, and getting enough exercise for fitness and relaxation. Nutrition Australia provides some great information about healthy eating, exercise and lifestyle on its website www.nutritionaustralia.org. (external site)

Queensland Health, a Queensland Government Department, has information about Queensland’s hospitals, health programs and recommendations on their website www.health.qld.gov.au.(external site)

Queensland Health also provides a 24 hour telephone service. If you have a health problem but are not sure who to see about it or whether you should seek help urgently, Queensland Health can advise you on 13-HEALTH (13-432584).

If you choose to be sexually active, make sure you are with someone who you trust and with whom you feel safe. ALWAYS use a condom. This will reduce your chances of contracting a range of sexually transmitted diseases, including Hepatitis and HIV/AIDS.
