Safe home
Your home is your base, so take care and keep it safe! Make sure that all doors and windows are locked when you go out, and preferably when you are home as well. When you are out, do not leave your keys where a stranger may find them (e.g. under a potplant or the doormat). It is best if the house looks as though someone is home, even if they aren’t - so if you’re away, leave a light on here and there at night, perhaps leave the television on softly, and don’t leave notes for housemates or visitors on the door indicating that the house is not occupied.
In an emergency, you can contact the police, fire service or ambulance by telephoning 000 (zero zero zero).
To report a theft or break in, telephone your nearest police station. You can find your nearest police station at www.police.qld.gov.au. (external site)
If you have gas connected at your home, read these safety guidelines from the Queensland Government www.energy.qld.gov.au/gas_safety_in_the_home.cfm.(external site)
To report fallen or loose hanging power (electricity) lines, telephone 131253. Do not go near the power lines and keep other people away from them as well.
