Medical and health services

High standard medical and health services are available throughout urban and regional areas. Make sure you take your Overseas Student Health Cover card and passport when you visit a doctor.

If you are attending a university, it may have a medical centre where you can make an appointment to see a doctor. If not, your university, school or college may be able to recommend a suitable local doctor for you to see.

You can find your own doctor online at the “Yellow Pages” directory www.yellowpages.com.au (external site). There are two fields for you to fill in on this page. Under the “find business type” field, enter “doctor” or “medical centre”. Under “location”, enter the postcode where you are living, or the name of the suburb you are living in.

On the next page, click on “Medical Centres” or “Doctors - Medical Practitioners”. This should take you to the final page, which will show you the phone numbers of your nearest doctors, as well as where they are located on a map.

In an emergency, you can contact the police, fire service or ambulance by telephoning 000 (zero zero zero).
