Food

Australian society is very diverse, and Australian families come from many cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Therefore the food that families eat varies greatly. It may be different to what you normally eat at home. Your Homestay family may also eat meals at different times than what you are used to.

If you really don’t like some types of food or would prefer to eat at a different time it’s alright to politely tell your host family. You should also let them know if you have any food allergies, or cultural or religious reasons for not eating a particular food or at a particular time.

Enjoy your mealtimes and experiment with new flavours. You could even offer to cook from time to time so that your new family can learn more about your culture and cuisine.
