Queensland education institutions have well-developed academic and social support services to help international students settle into life in Queensland and achieve their study goals.
Services include international student advisors, counselors and academic skills support, pre-departure briefings, airport greetings, and assistance with opening bank accounts, accommodation, health cover, transport and enrolment.
International student orientations
It is strongly recommended that you attend your study institution’s international student orientation. This is when you will be given a large amount of useful information on:
- living and studying in Queensland
- planning your course of study
- paying your fees
- attendance requirements.
Most importantly, you will be introduced to staff at your education provider who can help you settle in and make the most of your Queensland study experience.
Study environment
The study environment at most Australian study institutions is informal and interactive. Group projects, oral and written presentations, exams and practical sessions are all common methods of teaching and learning. Be prepared to speak up, contribute your ideas and take part in class discussions, group work and presentations.
Teachers and lecturers are often available, during class or out of class hours, to help and guide you with your work. There will also be people at your study provider who can help you use the library, computers, laboratories and other facilities at your institution. Don’t be shy about asking for help.
